Cornea

The cornea is the eye's first lens. Changes in its transparency or curvature affect vision quality even when the retina is perfectly healthy.

The approach

Corneal follow-up is essentially about tracking change over time: comparative topographies show whether an ectasia is stable or progressing, and that reading guides the treatment plan.

When surgery is indicated, the preference is always for the technique that preserves the greatest amount of the patient's healthy tissue.

  • Keratoconus

    Early diagnosis through topography and tomography, with follow-up to identify progression.

  • Crosslinking

    A procedure to stabilize the cornea in documented cases of progression.

  • Intrastromal rings

    Regularization of the corneal surface to improve optical quality in ectatic corneas.

  • Transplants

    Lamellar and penetrating techniques, indicated according to the affected layer.

Does keratoconus always require a transplant?

No. Most cases are managed with follow-up and optical correction and, when there is progression, stabilization procedures.

The interval is individual and defined by age and how the cornea has behaved on previous exams.
